The Southern Art Hub is pleased to announce its participation in SUMMA Mallorca 2026, taking place from 9–12 April, where at booth B2 we will present Un Cubo, a solo exhibition featuring the works of Argentine artist Maria Candelaria Traverso.

Candelaria lives and works in Maimará, a small town located in the Quebrada de Humahuaca, Argentina. Her artistic practice emerges from the relationships and experiences she forges in the territories she inhabits.

The knowledges and practices that connect ancestral times with the present, informal spaces such as fairs and markets, territory and displacement are interests that drive her work.

She holds a BA in Visual Arts from UNC. She completed the Cátedra Libre de Silvia R. Cusicanqui (2023), the ABele program (2020–2023), the EPPAC postgraduate program at UNC (2023), the Diploma in Community Feminisms of Abya Yala (2022), and the CIA Agents program (2016).

In this exhibition, the materiality of the bag occupies a central place as a carrier of meaning, and the way in which the artist works with it is presented as a living positioning of the contemporaneity of Andean ancestral notions, both on a personal level and within and beyond her territory.

The use of the bag in Candelaria’s practice arises from her personal experience selling second-hand clothing in Argentina. Through her constant encounter with the plastic burlap bag, the artist dives into this synthetic fabric beyond its commercial function, understanding it as a symbol in itself: a materiality that circulates globally as a carrier of consumption and that embodies the experience of that system.
